HSSE ENGINEER

Employment status: full-time / 40 hours per week

As an HSSE Engineer, you are responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining effective health, safety, security, and environmental management systems at both company and project levels. The primary goal is to ensure that all employees work in a safe and healthy environment compliant with applicable laws and regulation.

A workday might begin, for example, with an operational meeting, toolbox meeting, or presentation to promote a safety culture. You are aware of the tasks scheduled for the day, such as those in the Fabrication or Warehouse departments, and monitor and assess these tasks if they involve safety risks. You are assertive and possess strong communication skills. You collaborate closely with supervisors, the HSSEQ Manager, and the Quality Control Engineer.

The main duties and responsibilities are:

  • Actively promoting a safety culture through operational meetings, toolbox talks, and presentations;
  • Identifying potential hazards and risks at company and project levels;
  • Implementing and monitoring site-specific HSSE operations and tasks, such as maintaining the Risk Inventory and Evaluation (RIE) and developing the corresponding plans of approach;
  • Coordinating the Emergency Response Team (BHV);
  • Monitoring and assessing hazardous activities, and intervening as necessary;
  • Inspecting buildings and work environments, conducting risk assessments, identifying potential hazards, and developing suitable control measures;
  • Coordinating and/or conducting safety training sessions;
  • Promptly reporting incidents and accidents to relevant parties, investigating, assessing, following up, and contributing to finding solutions. Recording (timely and complete) takes place in the ERP system / quality management system;
  • Providing HSSE functional support to the business in tender stages and projects such as Hazard Identification and developing project Task Risk Assessments;
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for colleagues regarding safety-related matters;
  • Managing HSSE databases and compliance registers, and conducting trend analyses;
  • Collaborating with other departments and team members to ensure (HSSE) safety and environmental procedures are followed and project objectives are achieved;
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of HSSE processes and procedures.

WE ASK

You are capable of working multidisciplinary and do not adhere strictly to a 9-to-5 mentality. You are proactive, and with your hands-on mentality, you ensure that things get done. Additionally, you possess:

  • HBO level of education, with an affinity for construction technology, mechanical engineering, and offshore;
  • Relevant certifications in health, safety, and environment such as MVK or IVK, or an equivalent;
  • Work experience (minimum 2-3 years) in an HSSE role within the industry;
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations in health, safety, environment, and security, both nationally and internationally;
  • Good knowledge of PED, ATEX, DNV, and EU standards is desirable;
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments, identifying potential hazards, and developing appropriate control measures;
  • Ability to promote a positive safety culture and engage employees in promoting safety and well-being in the workplace;
  • Experience in developing and implementing training programs and educational initiatives in health, safety, and environment;
  • Strong problem-solving skills;
  • Proficiency in conducting audits and inspections to verify compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations;
  • Proficiency in both Dutch and English languages, both written and verbal;
  • Experience in writing HSSE tender/project documentation and reports in English in a clear and coherent manner;
  • Willingness to travel.
