NEW PU-2600 POWER UNIT

The past period has seen significant developments within CAPE Holland in order to prepare for some major projects. But as part of those projects, development of the support equipment has also taken some major steps, one of which was the development of complete new Power Units in answer to feedback from our clients.

Driving CAPE VLT’s for XXL monopiles weighing up to 3,000 tons does demand significant hydraulic power for a relative short amount of time, however, to be able to supply this peak demand, large hydraulic Power Units are required. Deck space is always an issue on any vessel and therefore CAPE Holland has taken the design philosophy, which was also applied in the development of the Hose Reels in 2021, into account for the Power Units, whereby minimizing required deck space is one.

Using the same basic offshore certified skid of the Hose Reels, our engineers managed to incorporate 3 Volvo Penta engines per Power Unit, bringing the total available power per Power Unit to 1,875 kW, which results in a maximum hydraulic flow of 2,600 l/m at 350 bar. The advantage of using the same basic skids is that the units can be stacked, in any combination of Power Unit or Hose Reel, providing maximum flexibility for any project.

Modern Volvo D16, IMO 3 engines have been chosen to reduce the carbon footprint of the Power Units as much as possible.

The first 6 units will be put into use in the early part of 2024.
