29 Flanged monopiles for Moray West OWF
29 FLANGED MONOPILES FOR MORAY WEST OFFSHORE WIND FARM
Between February 2024 and April 2024, the CAPE VLT-640 Quad was used by installation contractor DEME on board of its Offshore Heavy Lift DP3 installation vessel Orion to install 29 flanged monopiles with a bottom diameter up to 10 meters and a length of up to 91 meters for the Ocean Winds’ Moray West offshore wind farm in Scottish waters.
The CAPE VLT was chosen as a mitigation measure to prevent pile run. Additional features, such as certified pile handling and upending capabilities, helped make the installation process much more controlled, particularly in combination with the Dynamic Positioning system of the vessel and the state of the art installation tools from DEME. All 29 piles were installed within a total of just 60 days.
CAPE Holland is looking back on a great performance of the world largest CAPE VLT to date with no mechanical breakdown of the equipment which was all newly built, including the newly developed power units (PU-2600) which were also stacked to reduce required deck space.
