Installation and extraction of pipeline starter pile
INSTALLATION AND EXTRACTION OF PIPELINE STARTER PILE
In September – October 2024, Allseas successfully utilised the CAPE VLT-80 for the installation and extraction of a pipeline starter pile on the N05-A project in the Dutch North Sea.
Paul van Haestregt, Assistant Project Manager, Allseas: “Allseas selected the CAPE VLT-80 for two key reasons. First, its upending capabilities were essential for our operations. Given the length of the pile and limited deck space, multiple rotations were required. The upending mechanism on the CAPE VLT-80 provided the perfect solution, significantly simplifying our operations.
Second, the collaboration during the tender phase was excellent. CAPE Holland demonstrated a clear understanding of Allseas’ position and showed flexibility in scheduling, which was highly appreciated. Overall, Allseas was very pleased to work with CAPE Holland, and I would gladly recommend them for future projects should the need arise.”
The N05-A project is an offshore gas production platform in the North Sea, situated about 20 km north of the Borkum, Rottumerplaat and Schiermonnikoog islands. Located just 1.5 km from the German border in water depths of around 25 to 30 meters, it is set to become the first platform in the Dutch offshore sector to operate entirely on offshore wind power from the nearby German windpark Riffgat, reducing carbon emissions by 85% over its operational lifetime.
The platform is operated by ONE-Dyas in partnership with Hansa, and Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN). ONE-Dyas will extract natural gas from the N05-A field and surrounding reserves located within both the Dutch and German sections of the North Sea.
